Okay, so why is the goal of marital faithfulness so universal?
Or: Why did God build this program into all people?
It is because His Son is a Bridegroom, waiting for a pure bride.
A good marriage pictures nearly everything that happens in the heavenlies.
Some do not think of marriage as God’s idea.
They reason, if it’s universal, of course, it’s just a good idea that many have had, right? Surely God cannot claim that?
Actually, yes, He can, and He does.
He tells us that every good gift comes from Him. (James 1:17) Believe me, marriage done right is good.
It is a gift.
But before He said that, there was the beginning.
In the beginning, His Word says, He made them male and female. (Genesis 1:27)
He then took the female out of the male. (Genesis 2:21)
He then brought them back together and said that was why people should leave their parents and join to each other. (Genesis 2:24)
He makes a big deal out of it. I mean, right there with the history of the entire creation, we find an explanation of marriage: It’s because He took woman out of man, and then brought them back together to become one flesh again. Not so hard.
How we miss it, though!
And He says that what He has joined, no one should separate. Not difficult, again.
A person might not LIKE it, but it’s pretty easy to grasp.
And because of all the benefits we see in marriage, and all the detriments we see in every other course, we can know it’s a good thing. A smart thing.
And God was smart enough to think it up and to program us all to aim for it.
I quite agree. Hard to argue with the truth though, right?
You got it! 🙂
